Karnala Fort, also known as Funnel Hill, is a historic hill fort in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, located near Panvel and a populer one-day trek destination.It sits within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, is approximately 1,500 feet high, and is known for its distinctive pinnacle and strategic importance in guarding the Bor pass. The fort’s history includes periods under the Devagiri Yadavas, Gujarat Sultanate, Marathas, and Portuguese, with its ruins being a key feature of the sanctuary.

Location and access

Location: Raigad district, Maharashtra, about 10 km from Panvel and 65 km from Mumbai.
Travel: It is situated along the Mumbai-Goa highway.
Public Transport: From Panvel station, take a local bus to the sanctuary. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are also available, with some buses to the fort being difficult to find for return trips.

Difficulty: The trek is considered easy to moderate.

Duration: The trek to the top takes about 1 to 2 hours.

Route: There are two routes, with the main one being a well-defined path through the sanctuary, and a steeper, more challenging shortcut for adventurous trekkers.
